This accredited 1-day course will provide the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations involving children or infants.
This course meets: -
- Ofsted (or other equivalent inspecting body) requirements
- Requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework
Candidates will learn to adopt the essential role of paediatric first aiders and will be equipped with the skills needed to deal with situations, such as performing CPR, managing trauma and controlling external bleeding.
This course is suitable for any staff member working in day/ private nurseries, pre-schools, out of school clubs and other early years educational organisations. Including but not limited to: -
- Nursery Manager
- Nursery Assistant
- Early Years Educator
- Pre-School Assistant
- Room Supervisor
- Teacher
- Teaching Assistant
- Private Tutor
- Childminders
- Carers of children at home
This course is also suitable for anyone who cares for infants and children, such as parents, guardians, grandparents or those who have an involvement with infants and children and want to learn key paediatric first aid skills.
By the end of this course you will be able to: -
- Outline the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider, including contents of a first aid kit
- Identify how to assess an incident, and how to record and report accidents or incidents
- Demonstrate how to treat an infant or child who is suffering from breathing problems, head injuries, anaphylaxis, shock, insect stings, spinal injuries and chronic medical conditions
- Demonstrate how to deliver first aid to a child that is too hot or cold, unresponsive, choking or bleeding
Upon successful completion, delegates will receive certification valid for 3 years

- Assessing an emergency situation
- Dealing with an unresponsive infant or child
- Recovery Position
- CPR and defibrillation
