Breakaway techniques are essential skills for staff to safely disengage from potentially violent situations without causing harm. These manoeuvres are carefully designed to ensure the safety of both the staff and the individuals involved, emphasising effective conflict management and de-escalation.

Who is this course for?
This Bild ACT Certified course is aimed at anyone who is at risk of physical assault in the workplace. Such as:
- Healthcare Professionals
- Lone Workers
- Teachers/School Staff
It will provide staff with the skills necessary to break away from a potentially aggressive situation, where de-escalation techniques have failed, and physical assault may be imminent.
Objectives
- Understand the levels of risk posed by challenging individuals
- Explain how to meet a person’s needs and create a supportive environment
- Understand the balance between enhancing quality of life and reducing restraint
- Describe the effect of negative and environmental factors
- Explain the use of ‘reasonable force’ and its legal limitations
- Understand primary strategies and how to proactively meet a person’s needs
- Understand the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication during conflict
- Highlight the impact that cultural differences may have on communication
- Identify causes of communication breakdown
- Describe common causes of conflict
- Recognise the warning and danger signals displayed during a conflict situation
- Recognise the importance of early intervention
- Provide support to those directly affected by a violent incident
- Understand the different types of de-escalation strategies
- Define appropriate Secondary and Tertiary Non-Restrictive and Restrictive Strategies to manage aggressive individuals

Why do you need this course?
Breakaway techniques are vital manoeuvres used by a member of staff to break away from a potentially violent person without harming him or her.
This BILD ACT Certified course is aimed at anyone who is at risk of physical assault in the workplace. Such as: -
- Healthcare Professionals
- Lone Workers
- Teachers / School Staff
It will provide staff with the skills necessary to break away from a potentially aggressive situation, where de-escalation techniques have failed and physical assault may be imminent. Your certificate is valid for 1 year.
Due to the physical nature of this course we cannot accept any pregnant candidates on the course, post- natal learners should seek advice from their GP prior to attendance. All candidates must wear suitable clothing, e.g. tracksuit bottoms, trainers and t-shirt.
Please be advised that this course is not BILD Certified
