What First Aid Training Does My Organisation Need?
Depending on the size and type of organisation (see below) nominated staff at your workplace will need to be trained in either 'Emergency First Aid at Work' or 'First Aid at Work' training course. Both these first aid courses enable first aiders to carry out first aid duties in the event of a workplace accident.
Which First Aid Course Should I Choose?
Emergency First Aid at Work (1 Day) - Choose this first aid course if your organisation is considered low risk (offices, shops etc) and you have less than 50 employees
OR
First Aid at Work (3 Days) - Choose this first aid course if your organisation is considered higher risk (typically manufacturing, workshops etc) or if you have more than 50 employees
How Many People Do you Need Trained?
Minimum x 2 per building so each First Aider can cover for each other if the other is on leave
Objectives of The Course
To assess accidents and apply the necessary first aid where required
Contents
- The role of the first aider
- First aid kits and equipment
- Preventing cross infection
- Recording accidents and near misses (incidents)
- Assessing the situations in an emergency
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious / needs CPR / is choking / wounded or bleeding/ suffering from shock / has minor cuts, bruises or scalds
- Administer first aid to a casualty with:- injuries to bones, muscles, joints inc. suspected spinal injuries/ chest injuries / sudden poisoning / burns and scalds / eye injuries / anaphylactic shock and treatment
- Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma & diabetes
